Modak recipe – How to make Modak

Namaskar Welcome to nishamadhulikacom modak is one of the traditional dishes of Maharashtra

It is prepared in every house in Maharashtra during the festive season of ganesh chaturti There is very minimal use of ghee or oil so people that don’t like eating much ghee or oil can enjoy eating modak Today we will make modak Let’s see what ingredients are required for making modak Rice flour – 1 cup Raw coconut – 1 cup (grated) Jaggery – ¾ cup (finely crushed) Desi ghee – 1 tbsp Poppy seeds – 1 tbsp Salt – 2 pinch Cashew nuts – 2 tbsp Raisins – 1 tbsp Green cardamom – 4-5 Firstly knead the rice flour for making modak

Heat 1 cup water in any utensil and them bring it in use Add salt and 1 tsp ghee in water Cover the water so that it gets boiled quickly Water has started boiling Turn off the gas

Add rice flour in the water now Mix rice flour in water nicely Cover dough for 5 minutes and then knead it Meanwhile prepare stuffing for the modak’s Add poppy seeds in heated pan

Stir constantly and roast for 1-15 minute Now add jaggery in the pan Let the jaggery melt nicely Jaggery is melted now add grated coconut to it

Cook on low flame for 2-3 minutes Add cashew nuts, poppy seeds and raisins Turn off the gas and add cardamom powder into it Let the stuffing get frigid Now knead the dough and make it soft

Take out flour in plate and mash it with spoon Knead it with your hands moment it gets cool Grease you hands with little ghee and knead it until it become soft Dough is ready Take out stuffing in a bowl so that it gets frigid quickly

Take little amount of mixture (lemon size) in you hands and make a round ball Flatten it with your palms and fingers Keep the corners thin and thick from center Dig like this for filling stuffing Now place 1 tbsp stuffing in it

Now give it a shape of flower like this Now seal it from all sides Modak is ready Place it in a plate Like wise make all modak

Now we will cook the modak For this take any utensil in which we can steam the modak’s easily Add 1-15 cups of water into it Place it on flame for heating

When water starts boiling we will steam the modak’s Place a sieve on top like this and cover it for steaming the modak Let the water boil Grease the sieve with ghee Place the modak’s at some distance in the sieve

Water has started boiling; now steam the modak’s Place the sieve like this on the top Cook for 10-12 minutes You can also use steamer Turn off the gas

Modak are cooked properly now and appear shiny Modak have become frigid, serve them in a plate Mouth watering and tempting modak’s are ready Try this recipe at your home and share your experience with us See you again at nishamadhulika
