Safaid Lobia (سفید لوبیہ-) – How to Cook Black Eyed Beans (Urdu Audio, English Subtitles)

Peace and blessings to you all My dear brothers and sisters

Today I'm going to make black eyed beans (Lobia) for you For this, I have 250g of Lobia This is equivalent to 1½ glasses I will now soak this in water for an hour To make Lobia, I have used half a cup of oil and I have put this inside a pressure cooker

The oil is now warm and so I have added in the onions and garlic Stir the onions until they are golden brown After this we will add water and tomatoes and salt and spices The Lobia have been soaked in water for one hour I have now drained the water off the Lobia and once the masala is cooked, I will mix them together

The onions are a bit brown now, so we can add the ginger The onions are now golden brown so I am adding some water to stop them getting more brown Now I will add one tinned tomato You can add fresh tomatoes instead if you prefer Now I will add: 2 tsp red chilli powder, 1 ½ tsp salt and a little bit of turmeric

Keep stirring until the masala is all thoroughly mixed together When the masala is mixed, we will then add in the Lobia I have stirred the masala for 5-6 minutes and will now add in the Lobia Now we can mix the Lobia in Add the two green chillis in – slit them in the middle so they do not burst

We will cook for a further 5-6 minutes and then add water before cooking in pressure cooker If the Lobia stick to the bottom of the pan, then add a bit of water It has now been 5 minutes of cooking It will need roughly 5 minutes more and then we will add more water It has now been 10 minutes of cooking, so I will now add in the water

I have added in a total of 3 cups of water Now I will cook in the pressure cooker for around 10-12 minutes I have closed the lid of the pressure cooker with the weight on top and will cook on medium heat for 10-12 minutes After 10 minutes I have taken the lid off the pressure cooker It is important to put cold water on top of the lid before removing: this is so the steam comes out – an important safety tip

I will now cook for a further 1-2 minutes I will garnish with some Garam Masala spice mix and fresh green coriander I have added a bit more water to stop the Lobia going too dry I will cook for a further 1-2 minutes and then add the Garam Masala spice mix and fresh green coriander I have added ½ a teaspoon of Garam Masala spice mix

Here you can see the Lobia is fully cooked Now I have added some fresh green coriander and switched off the cooker By the grace of God, our Lobia dish is very tasty You can eat this dish with either naan bread or roti (chapati bread) Please try this recipe at home and let us know how it tasted!
